by Terry ini received the bootprint of jehovah on my ass 35 years ago.. i've missed a lot of meetings since that time.
well, i can't say i've emotionally "missed" them!.
while writing my book i had cause to reflect on what my life might have been had i not walked out of a kingdom hall for the last time in 1978.. what if i had gone on attending meetings?.

This is for the opening poster who also sent me a PM. Sometimes zoning laws dictate that a church or a kingdom hall for that matter sell their land to a proprietor that will use the land in the same if not similar manner as it's already being used. I'm not real estate agent or lawyer, but that't what happened in our case. The Kingdom Hall I grew up in, is now run by some Muslims. The congregation we went in with to build a new Kingdom Hall, sold their Hall to another church because zoning laws dictatated that they had to. I'm not familiar with the whys or hows, but that's what happened.

SloppyJoe, nobody ever said the organization was infallible. Regardless, Jesus said to keep on the watch, and that's what those faithful brothers have done throughout the years. Let's put it this way. Let's say every day on your commute to work you notice a well dressed man waiting for the bus at the bus stop. You don't pay him that much attention. However, one day your car wont start and being that you're in a hurry, you decide to catch the bus. The same bus you see the well dressed man waiting for. You approach him and ask if the arrival of the bus is imminent? He replies "it should be here soon, possibly in ten minutes but who knows. It could be longer." You wait 10 minutes, and growing impatient, you decide to call your boss and inform him that you're going to use a sick day in effect calling off.
You see, many within the ex-JW community are like that man who called off from work. They focused on the "ten minutes", but not the "it could be longer." The WT if anything is guilty of being too anxious for the end to arrive, but are also counted as righteous for keeping on the watch. The ex-JW community, or rather some, were simply impatient. Too focused on when they would be able to pet hyenas, and frolic in the pumpkin fields with resurrected men and women written about in the Bible. It was never about a love for Jehovah for such ones.

Responses to questions from pages 3.
Jgnat- Independent as in, you know, studying on your own.
Well, I usually do study on my own. Occassionally we might invite someone over for Family Worship Night, but for the most part I study privately. Whether that be with the Insight Books, or using the CD Rom, See the Great Land, etc., you get it. I'm really looking forward to utilizing the JW Library app as the brothers add new editions to it.
Donny- JW's are basically just like Catholics except their College of Cardinals (Governing Body) claims that their teachings are solely based on the Bible. JW's don't really follow the Bible. They follow what the GB says the Bible says which, strangely, many Witnesses refuse to admit.
That's ridiculous, and you know it. Don't be a dope. There's a reason why we continue to refer to ourselves as Bible students although the original use of that phrase as a title has been discarded. There is no other collective organization of people who's lives and beliefs are as centered upon the Bible's teachings as Jehovah's Witnesses. Others may claim to follow the Bible's instructions, but their false teachings(trinity, hellfire, etc.) and their lifestyles prove contrary to that claim. I want to refer you to some excerpts found within the second page of each public edition of the Watchtower. "This magazine has been published continuously since 1879 and is nonpolitical. It adheres to the Bible as it's authority." "Would you welcome more information or a free home Bible study?" "This publication is not for sale. It is provided as part of a worldwide Bible educational work supported by volutary donations." Again, Jehovah's Witnesses adhere to what's found in the Bible. When we speak to the public at large, we make sure to let them see that our message comes not from our own tongues, but from the Bible.

Poindexter Lionel- Are you counting your time while preaching to us on this website?
No I am not. Until the Branch comes out and states that it's acceptable to count time via online message boards, I will continue to omit the time spent here on my time sheet.
Wizzstick- But does god always have an organisation to use? In, for example, the 14th Century, what was God's organisation on earth?
Why do Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus started reigning as King in 1914? They beleive that 1914 marked the end of the Gentile Times that ran for 2,520 years from 537BCE to 1914CE. And that 537BCE comes from a 70 year period from 607BCE to 537BCE.
While it's true that we don't know who Jehovah was using during the 14th century, it's also true that we don't know whether Job the greatest of the Orientals of his time had any contemporaries. So who and where was God's Organization during certain periods of time is really not an important question. What is important is recognizing who His visible organization is now. As far as those with discernment can tell, it's Jehovah's Witnesses.-John 13:35, John 4:24
I'll save the date of Jerusalem's destruction being 607(fact) vs. 587(pseudo self serving history) for another thread. I thought Rulf Furuli research debunked Carl Jonnson's theories completely, but some have a hard time accepting that for some reason. Another day I'll touch on that.
Fernando- SFPW how do you see the GB as faithful when they instruct elders to disfellowship any "publisher of the Good News" that dares to declare the "Good News" according to Paul?
Is it true that more than half the NWT's references to "Good News" are by Paul?
Why is the "Good News" according to Paul not in your heart and not on your lips?
Under these circumstances how can you claim to "Stand for Pure Worship"?
Your first question makes no sense, as we do preach the good news as Paul declared and that which he declared was in harmony with what the Christ had taught. As to your second question, can you prove that to be the case? If so, I'm not sure it would even matter as we believe the whole Bible contains God's instruction whether it be letters from Paul, or Peter, or the Gospels. Your last question, how can I claim stand for pure worship, I do so by refuting the false teachings prevelant here on JWN.-Titus 1:10-16
If I missed anyone, I apologize.

A House Divided Against Itself Falls-Luke 11:17
by Stand for Pure Worship inthat text reminds me of one of a handful of problems peculiar to the ex-jw community.
second only to the wild beast's internal divisions, is the divided makeup of the ex-jw populace.
you know the one thing that indicates jehovah's blessing upon the worldwide association of kingdom proclaimers, is not only the continued success of the preaching work, but along with it the unity and love amongst the brothers and sisters.

Frazzled, honestly I never would have known that UBM would have stood for Unbelieving Mate. I guess I need to take a crash course on ex-JW vernacular. When I think Unbelieving Mate, I simply think Unbelieving Mate, not UBM. UBM conjures to mind a television network some reason when outside of the theocratic context. My apologies. Hopefully you won't hold it against me like, Oubliette. Oh well, perhaps your Christian wife may win you over without a word.- 1 Pet 3"1
Now as far as answering some of the questions in this thread, I'm going to work backwards and some questions I'm simply not going to respond to because the answers are beyond your level of understanding.-Heb 5:12-14
Tenyearsafter(great band by the way), your question about the Slave illustration being literal, I'll address first and I'll include some thoughts about so called false predictions. When I thought of your question, two things came to mind. Pink Floyd's song, Time, and 1 Cor 14:33 which you may recall is the letter in which Paul states that "God is not a God of disorder." You see, throughout the Scriptures, you find that everything God does, is done according to a schedule. It's never irrational or spontaneous. When our human parents rebelled in Eden, God set into motion a course of events that would both answer the questions raised during that moment, and result in fulfilling His will. Again, the events set in motion would take time to run their course. You'll also notice that the events were spoken of in an illustrative or figurative nature, but the characters involved depicted real players.
That said, Jesus being the perfect student of his heavenly Father, would relay matters the same to his disciples. If you recall, when his disciples asked him, "when will these things be?", Jesus reply wasn't exactly what they were anticipating. Being that Jesus' words were two-fold, as we now understand today which the disciples back then did not, we have a better understanding that the fulfillment of the words in Matthew 24 would have a greater fulfillment with our generation which is when the lives of the annointed would overlap with key events that Christ spoke of. Let it be known that I'm not one of the annointed despite referring to this generation as being our's. Jesus made mention of multiple events that would take place leading up to the time of the end. He mentioned warfare, famine, earthquakes, but these things would simply be a beginning. It goes without saying that the level of earthquakes, famine, pestilence, and warfare have been unprecedented within the last 100 years. But again, these events serve only as a prelude.
The key thing to be concerned about, and again this goes back to my mentioning of time in the beginning of this post, Jesus stated nobody knows the day or hour when this will come. Just like nobody knew when their hair would start thinning. It happened as if almost overnight. What lets us know this parable was to be taken in the literal sense was that it was included within Jesus' words involving the last days. Despite being in an illustrative form, it was a response to a question about the times of the end. Again, his use of illustrations was not uncommon as he typically teached with illustrations, and remember that Jehovah's prophecy right after the Edenic rebellion was spoken in an illustrative manner. Going back to JEsus, he asked the rhetorical question about who would be feeding his sheep during the time leading up to these tumultuous events? Evidently it has to be the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses. They provide us with Bible based literature(spiritual food) that not only encourages us, but assists us in making decisions that glorify Jehovah. When Jesus asked Peter whether or not he loved him, Jesus emphasized that to truly demonstrate his love, he would need to feed Jesus sheep. The hedonistic Catholics like to think that they're the heir apparent of Peter, which we all know is hogwash. However, what is not ridiculous, is that the Governing Body is the only group when in unison are taking Jesus' questions towards PEter to heart. They're truly concerned with the spiritual welfare of his sheep and as a result have answered with a definitive, yes they love Jesus.
Now as far as faulty predictions, it's true that the WT has been a bit overzealous in their verbiage related to anticipation of the end times. For the record, they've never made any actual and by actual I mean specific predictions about when the end would come. No, but they have emphasized possibilities of when it might come, and I admit were at times a bit heavy on their emphasis. I know this gives ammunition to the self-victims of 1975, but really the only thing the WT has been guilty of was following JEsus words at Matt 24:42. You can't fault them for that.

FrazzledUBM, I didn't use the word, Luckily, as True Christians don't attribute anything to luck, which is why I used the word fortunately. You might see it as semantics, but I see it as honoring the only true God, Jehovah. I might as well wallow in the same ignorance that the atheists have become accustomed to were I to attribute anything to luck. Just noticed the latter part of your name, UBM. I assume that stands for Unbaptized Male? If you want to progress spiritually and dedicate your life to Jehovah, you may want to better yourself at speaking the Pure Language. For the spiritually weak, it's all semantics, but for True Christians, words really do mean something. We believe in Undeserved Kindness, not something fictitious like, Grace. The same can be said with the differences in meaning when it comes to, Luck, and Fortunate.
I've been dying to get back to this thread, but my posting limits were constrained, and I've been extremely busy, too much so to answer each and every one of the questions directed to me on this thread. TenYearsAfter, during my lunch break, I'll come back and explain to you why the Faithful & Discreet Slave is to be taken literal as opposed to something illustrative or a parable. As time permits, perhaps I'll address some other concerns.
